We just got back from our second year at the oceanfront condo in Ocean Shores, WA that we bought at our churches auction. Every year I think it's going to surprise me and be warm, but it doesn't! I am slowly learning that that's just the reality of the WA coast. A far cry from the beaches of South Carolina that I spent summers on in my youth.
So instead of playing in the waves, the boys did some digging while Isabella picked up shells and rocks.

Mike and I have finally hit the stage that while the kids need some guidance and occassional games played with them, we are able to sit back and relax. I finished two books while we were there.

Who needs a chair? The sand on the beach is so much warmer so I would lay down in the sand and try to stay warm. On this particular day there was a strong wind, so I tried to lay on my side to avoid the wind. Mike tried to help by building a nice little sand wall, but that just blew sand into my hair and ear...a valiant effort nonetheless.

We also made a stop at our families favorite candy shop.

Isn't it amazing?!

Yummo!

Rock candy and contentment, nothing better.

We left the candy store and went out in search of some geocaches.

Aidan found this one.

Not quite sure who dressed Owen. Oh, wait...he did!

We saw lots of deer again this year.

45 in 5 days to be exact. Here's two female deer with a baby. Pretty sure the buck was the one in the picture above. Of course, when you see a deer you have to sing the Sound of Music song to go with it.

Another geocache found

Sunday turned out to be a nicer day with less wind and some sun.

Owen and Bella played a game to see who could get closer to the waves without getting wet. Aren't they the cutest holding hands?!

We also decided that Sunday would be our beach campfire day. So Aidan and Mike gathered wood.

Check that log out!

Can't get enough of the hand holding and the pure joy you can see radiating from Owen. Look at him on tip toes and all!

Owen digging the fire pit

Aidan laying out some wood to get ready to light the fire.

S'mores!

Isabella fell over in her chair...

and poor thing, no one seemed to care!

We did the Go Carts Slick track again

While walking the beach we stopped to pet the horses.

Can you read the sign on the bottom left? It says "caution horses may bit"...doesn't look like any of our kids are showing any caution...no surprise there!

You are never too old to have fun at the playground.

We completed a LOT of geocaches!

The kids spotted a family of deer on one of our walks.

Can you spot the deer?

We even spent some time playing at some tee pees that we found.

We ended our trip with a stay at the Great Wolf Lodge.

Don't worry, there wasn't a single fight over who got top bunk!

Guess who won?!

But Owen was a good sport and happy that his little bunk had a window.

After a long evening at the water park, we headed down to story time.

The end!

Temperatures hit into the 90's outside, which means, the house temperature hit somewhere in the 80's in the afternoon. It's nearly unbearable! So after a day of swimming lessons, backyard bible club for Owen and Bella, shopping for Aidan and Mom, and open swim for all of us, we hit the beach for dinner with a few of our favorite people!

Owen and his buddy Shea. I can just see this same pose for a picture 10 years down the road. They are such crazy friends!
Aidan just desperatly wishing he wasn't always the oldest!
Big Bella and Little Bella...we really need to come up with better names than that!
Mr. Otto strutting his stuff in his cool boots!
The kids splashing in the water. Don't let the 90 degree temps fool you...the water was still probably only in the high 50's!
Mike and Aidan skipping rocks
There were some great conversations...
yummy food...

guy talk...

And fun times on the beach with friends!

Happy Summer!
