It's that time of year again...time for Trick or Treating and all things Halloween! I absolutly love Halloween. I love the variety of candy that is out there, I love the free stuff, I love trick or treating and all the events and activities that go with it. Mike on the other hand is a Halloween scrooge. He says he can buy his own candy and would rather stay at home than go knocking door to door to find some. BIG FAT SCROOGE! So, thankfully, he humors me but not for long! Here the kids are all ready for the Street of Screams at the Centre at Norpoint. I love the super fun scary houses that the kids can trick or treat at.
All dressed up: Aidan of course, is something spooky and creepy, Bella is a witch, and Owen is Spiderman. I bought all of the costumes this year at a garage sale (Aidan's $1, Bella's was a combination of free box items with the hat costing me 50 cents and Owen's was an outfit that I passed up on at a garage sale but when Owen went back with me, he couldn't resist. I paid a quarter thinking it would be an outfit that he could dress up in at home...turns out it's his favorite thing to wear!) so for $1.75, the kids have three Halloween costumes that they are happy with.

Owen drew this cute little pumpkin for his friend at school inviting him to the street of screams at the Centre. I thought he did such a nice job on the face that I had to take a picture.

Owen has been obsessed with Lego's recently. I have the hardest time spatially putting legos together so it's a big joke in my family when I try. Owen cheers me on nonetheless, and I am able (with LOTS of time) to put together some acceptable sculptures. Thankfully, we have lots of instruction books but even so, I struggle. The flower pot, dinosaur, helicopter and fish shown below took me a whopping two hours to put together. Owen is shown above holding the helicopter but even his gentle hands break the rudders and can send me into tears for all the work I put into it! Oh well...I try!

We spent Sunday afternoon doing our annual fall tradition of carving pumpkins, making homemade calzones and roasting pumpkin seeds. It was a super fun afternoon for the whole family.

But really, Owen just wanted to do it on his own!

I have been getting a TON of custom orfers from people who have seen the blog. I thought I would just start posting pictures of stuff I was working on, I never thought I would get orders from them! Don't get me wrong, I love it! It's nice to sew with a purpose! So here's a preview of what I worked on this afternoon. I made this custom "J" cape for a little guy name Jack. The kiddo isn't even one yet, but who doesn't need a superhero cape!
Bella's tooth was hanging by a thread today at breakfast. She lost one on the bottom one week ago today.
It was literally just hanging there!

She pulled it out herself.

See her new smile. Both front teeth are missing as is one on the bottom. What a cutie! Guess that's really what she is going to want for Christmas!

So I spent my day working on a few children's aprons. I made the pattern last night and am still trying to tweak it a bit. I have never worked with bias tape before and while I like the look of it, I am finding it really hard to work with. I might see if I can find an alternative. In the meantime, here are three of the different materials that I made the aprons out of. They should fit a child size 2T-6/7. I will be selling these at the Alliance Bible Church craft bazaar this Saturday in Maple Valley. Come see me!

Aprons, aprons and more aprons!

I think these aprons are so fun. It happens quite often when I see something in a store and think, "I could make that". What doesn't happen very often is when I actually take the time to make that item! The aprons are a few of those things that I just loved when I saw them in the store and on-line that I thought for sure I could make. I whipped these four aprons up last week to sell at the upcoming craft bazaar this weekend. One of my friends makes some delicious jams and butters (yum caramel apple butter!) and thought if you paired the two, what a lovely gift that would make for the holidays!

I just had to brag a little about my "free" day that I had recently. These were the only receipts I had but the total on them makes me so happy! I started my morning with a free coffee from 7-11, then headed to the mall and picked up my free bath and body works lotion that I got from a coupon in the mail. I headed across the hall and went to Victoria's Secret where I picked up my free pair of underwear for signing up for their mailing list. I ended my afternoon with a stop at Walgreens where I picked up two free packs of gum (stocking stuffers). I love a free day.

The rain has returned to the Pacific Northwest! The kids enjoyed some puddle stomping in the backyard before we made some caramel apples. What a great fall weekend.

Aidan cut the marshmallows (we didn't have mini marshmallows and these were only covered with sand from Ocean Shores a little bit!)

Unwrapping the caramels
The bag only came with five sticks and we didn't have any more sticks to put in so I gave the job to Mike to engineer something. He used forks.

We got a little package in the mail yesterday of a disc from the photographer http://www.materaphoto.com/ . The disc contained hundreds of pictures from our little photo shoot last month. We were very excited to get a chance to peek at some of the shots. Kelty is planning their release of their new line at Target in the spring so we are anxious to see which pictures get choosen. If you remember, Kelty only wanted a family of four, so most pictures don't have the whole family in them. Here are a few of our favorites from the day.
Peeking out of the snack tent

We finally got a chance to stop for a snack. YUM!

How cute is he?!

Roasting crazy looking marshmallows. Of course, I brought the marshmallows I had from home that were from the discount grocery outlet so they didn't roast well. That or it could have been that we used a fire starter log so they didn't burn or roast, just turned a nice grey color.

One of the few shots of the whole family

Mike became an expert clipper during this shot. He clipped and reclipped at least a hundred times!

The boys

This was a shot that Steve got while Owen took a little break from being in our family. It turned out to be one of Mike's favorite shots of the day

Would you buy a sleeping bag from this guy?!
